Julia Ruth Stevens, the last surviving child of Babe Ruth, died Saturday at age 102.Her son, Tom, confirmed to multiple outlets she passed away at an assisted living facility in Nevada. The Yankees slugger adopted Stevens after he married her mother, Claire Hodgson, on opening day in 1929.Stevens made several high-profile public appearances even in her later years. In 2008, she threw out the first pitch in the final game at old Yankee Stadium, also known as “the House That Ruth Built.”Despite her stepfather’s legendary feats with the Yankees, Julia became a Red Sox fan. The Red Sox invited her to throw out the first pitch at a game in Fenway Park in July 2016 to celebrate her 100th birthday.Stevens never tired of sharing stories of her famous father, who died of cancer in 1948. In July 2014, she told The Los Angeles Times, “I miss him even to this day. But his spirit seems to hover over the baseball field.”last_img
