Who won the NASCAR race yesterday? Full results for Talladega race

first_imgThe finish of Monday’s rain-delayed Geico 500, as thrilling as it was, was still a secondary storyline behind what happened before the race.NASCAR came together to support Bubba Wallace, the lone Black driver in the Cup series, a day after a noose reportedly was found in Wallace’s garage stall at Talladega Superspeedway. Drivers and team members walked with Wallace and pushed his car to the front of the line in prerace ceremonies. MORE: Wallace says NASCAR is ‘changing’Wallace led briefly midway through the final stage but eventually ran out of gas in the closing laps. Meanwhile, his best friend, Ryan Blaney, was good on fuel and strong enough to get to the line first by inches. Blaney edged past Ricky Stenhouse Jr. in a wild overtime for his second consecutive win at the track, both in photo finishes.Another chapter written in the book of thrilling @TalladegaSuperS finishes.Once again, it was @Blaney holding off the pack to score the victory. pic.twitter.com/jPEQC91QcA— NASCAR (@NASCAR) June 23, 2020MORE: Fellow driver gives Wallace push to pits after fuel runs outBelow are the complete results from Monday’s race at Talladega, which was delayed by weather (rain Sunday and a storm Monday) twice.Who won the NASCAR race at Talladega?Ryan Blaney edged out Ricky Stenhouse Jr. by a nose (officially, seven one-thousandths of a second). Just before that, Blaney shoved Erik Jones out of the way in the drag race to the start-finish line.”I just kind of blocked, just trying to block the best we could,” Blaney told reporters. “Ride the top, ride the bottom. The 20 (Jones) got to my outside, and I tried to go up there to slow him down and . . . I’m not sure, I don’t know . . . three-wide, I hate that I hit him, but just kind of trying to beat and bang to the line and things like that.”Aric Almirola, who also wrecked at the finish, crossed the line backward in third place. Denny Hamlin was fourth and Jones finished fifth.NASCAR at Talladega resultsBlaney ran most of the race up front in a tight pack with his Team Penske teammates Joey Logano and Brad Keselowski. All three represented a strong threat to win even as the lead changed 56 times among 19 drivers. Blaney led the most laps in the race with 63.Wallace moved into contention late in the race, taking the lead with 27 laps to go. He quickly fell back after being passed by Logano and then later ran out of fuel, which ended his quest for a victory. He finished 14th. FinishStartDriverCarLaps1(12)Ryan BlaneyFord1912(20)Ricky Stenhouse Jr.Chevrolet1913(15)Aric AlmirolaFord1914(2)Denny HamlinToyota1915(18)Erik JonesToyota1916(21)Chris BuescherFord1917(8)Alex BowmanChevrolet1918(22)John Hunter Nemechek #Ford1919(7)Kurt BuschChevrolet19110(5)Kevin HarvickFord19111(19)William ByronChevrolet19112(33)Ty DillonChevrolet19113(4)Jimmie JohnsonChevrolet19114(24)Bubba WallaceChevrolet19115(31)Ryan PreeceChevrolet19116(25)Corey LaJoieFord19117(9)Joey LoganoFord19118(26)Michael McDowellFord19119(6)Brad KeselowskiFord19120(16)Tyler Reddick #Chevrolet19121(39)Brendan GaughanChevrolet19122(28)Cole Custer #Ford19123(1)Martin Truex JrToyota19124(14)Ryan NewmanFord19125(10)Clint BowyerFord19026(23)Matt DiBenedettoFord19027(32)Quin Houff #Chevrolet19028(37)Daniel SuarezToyota19029(35)Christopher Bell #Toyota19030(29)Gray Gaulding(i)Ford19031(30)BJ McLeodChevrolet19032(3)Kyle BuschToyota18933(38)Timmy Hill(i)Toyota18534(40)Garrett Smithley(i)Chevrolet18535(27)Brennan Poole #Chevrolet17836(34)JJ Yeley(i)Chevrolet17837(36)Joey Gase(i)Ford14138(11)Chase ElliottChevrolet13539(17)Austin DillonChevrolet13340(13)Matt KensethChevrolet127# Rookie. first_imgIreland’s most-famous amateur weatherman says he hopes the curlew doesn’t bring an end to the country’s hot weather spell.Mickey doesn’t want to hear the curlew!Michael Gallagher says he fears the appearance of the iconic bird may mean an end to our roasting summer. The Donegal postman took his own holidays two weeks ago at the start of the good spell. And although he says he thinks we are still going to have a good summer, he fears more torrential rain and thunderstorms.“I haven’t heard the curlew’s call at all this summer and that’s a really good sign.“I don’t care if I don’t hear him because his call has always been a sign of rain.“I think overall we’ll have a good summer with plenty of bright, sunny days. “There is a new moon this month and that will hopefully help the weather to remain settled.Michael wouldn’t mind seeing more of Georgia Salpa!“However we have to be careful with those thunderstorms as they could swing the weather either way,” he said. The postman, who learned his weather-forecasting skills from old people in the hills around Glenfin, says the good weather is giving everyone a lift.“Everyone is in great form and it’s down to the weather.“Yes, many people are still getting it tight because of the recession but the weather is free and people can go out for a walk in lovely sunshine and make the most of all we have in this wonderful country and it’s absolutely free,” he added.
